Okay, I said it. I will admit that it was hard to say. I never thought I would get a chance to say that, but frankly, because this novel is written by Stephenie Meyer it was to be expected. I read the Host in a solid three days. After finishing the book I couldn't get enough of the story, so I picked it up and read it again. Having completed it Multiple times I still never tire of the story. Here is why.The novel itself has several themes that are similar to those of the Twilight Saga. These include romance, survival, and external conflicts. However, this novel succeeds in a place where Twilight did not. Instead of dreaming of hot vampires, The Host leaves you assessing the human race in your spare time. It brings out the darkness in humans ( i.e violence and cruelty) while also bringing out the light that humans, as a race, are capable of ( i.e compassion, kindness,strenght and above all, love) The Host is an exceptional novel because of the way it can have you hating your own species one minute, and feeling compassion with them the next. The characters are real-live HUMANS ( well most of them anyway) and I'm sure that everyone can relate to one of them, whether its timid Wanderer, the misfit soul trying to belong in a world of her enemies, or even cruel Kyle, who is strong and yet surprising. The Host is an unconventional love story, dealing with a love triangle ( or rectangle really) It deals with many different types of love including love between family members, lost love, unrequitted love, and ( just like in Twilight) an impossible love. This book is the best book I have ever read and I can't wait for more. I would reccommend this book to anyone who reads ANYTHING ( action. romance. scifi. anti-scifi. a realist. an idealist. people who love physcological analysis. ANYONE, ESPECIALLY TWILIGHT SAGA FANS) Wanderer, Melanie, Jarad, Ian, and Jamie, are all characters that should be ranked with Bella, Edward, and Jacob. It is time this novel has had its recognition. :)
